Color = status family

  • Red: Operational, under construction, approved.
  • Amber: Application filed, on appeal, restructured.
  • Slate: Speculative or exploratory.
  • Blue: Municipal ordinance response.
  • Green: Withdrawn, denied, or cancelled.

Size = project scale

  • Mega (>1.5 GW)
  • Hyper (500 MW or 1.5 M sq ft)
  • Large (100–499 MW)
  • Mid (25–99 MW)

The state’s PATER study looks at reusing these sites for new power plants, and some are near data center proposals. Each has its own page, and our post explains the study and has a map of all 21.

Where this data comes from

The tracker is built from our inventory of Pennsylvania AI data center projects, covering announcements, filings, approvals, denials, withdrawals and ordinance responses from 2020 to today. It also includes related infrastructure: power plants, grid upgrades, pipelines and factories that are being built or expanded for data center demand. It was last updated October 26, 2026, and we add to it as new filings and reporting come in. Sources include state and federal filings (FERC, PUC, DEP), municipal agendas and minutes, Pennsylvania Senate and House files, and reporting from the Philadelphia Inquirer, WHYY, Spotlight PA, Patch, Bisnow and the trade press. Every profile lists its own sources.
