Talen Energy

Talen Energy is a Houston-based independent power producer whose biggest Pennsylvania asset is its 90 percent stake in the Susquehanna nuclear plant in Salem Township, Luzerne County. Talen started the Cumulus data center campus next to the plant in 2021, sold it to Amazon Web Services in March 2024 for $650 million, and in June 2025 agreed to supply Amazon with up to 1,920 megawatts from Susquehanna through 2042; its subsidiaries also owned the Nautilus bitcoin mine there, which shut down in 2025. In Montour County, Talen asked to rezone about 870 acres of Anthony Township farmland for a data center it planned to turn over to Amazon, and the county commissioners denied it in February 2026. Talen is also a partner in Slate Belt Holdings, which has filed plans for a data center campus in Upper Mount Bethel Township, and a Talen executive sat on the developers' panel for the proposed campus next to its power plants in Lower Mount Bethel Township.

Talen reported about 15.5 gigawatts of generation, including 2.2 gigawatts of nuclear power, on September 29, 2026, after completing its purchase of the Waterford, Darby and Lawrenceburg gas plants in June 2026. The 13.1 gigawatt figure it gave earlier described the fleet after the November 2025 Freedom and Guernsey purchases.
