PPL Corporation
PPL Corporation is an Allentown-based utility holding company whose subsidiaries deliver electricity in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Virginia and Rhode Island and natural gas in Kentucky and Rhode Island, and the company says it serves more than 3.6 million customers. PPL pledged $6.8 billion through 2028 to expand and modernize the Pennsylvania transmission grid of its utility, PPL Electric Utilities, as data center demand grows. PPL also owns 51 percent of Invitium Energy, a joint venture with Blackstone Infrastructure that plans gas-fired power plants in Pennsylvania to sell power to data centers, though no sites or customers have been named.
In Kentucky, PPL's utilities Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities won state approval in October 2025 to build two new natural gas combined-cycle units, Brown Unit 12 and Mill Creek Unit 6, which they proposed partly to serve possible data center demand.
