NextEra Energy
NextEra Energy is a publicly traded power company headquartered in Juno Beach, Florida, that owns Florida Power & Light and NextEra Energy Resources, and it calls itself the largest electric power and energy infrastructure company in North America. NextEra Energy Resources was picked in March 2026 to develop, build and operate South Mon, a 4.3-gigawatt gas power plant planned for an undisclosed site in Pennsylvania's Mon Valley region. NextEra says the U.S. and Japan would own the project while it earns fees without investing its own capital, and the parties signed definitive agreements on August 12, 2026 that released an initial $3.3 billion for South Mon and a Texas project.
NextEra says it has signed definitive agreements for three federal hub projects totaling about 16.5 gigawatts, two in Texas and one in Pennsylvania, and that its Duane Arnold nuclear plant in Iowa is on track to restart by early 2029.
