Backer profile · Power company
Calpine Corporation
Calpine is a power producer that Constellation Energy bought from Energy Capital Partners on January 7, 2026 for about $22 billion, and Constellation calls it the nation's largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources, with about 23 gigawatts of capacity after required sales. In Pennsylvania it owns the 828 megawatt York 2 Energy Center in Peach Bottom Township, York County, where Energy Capital Partners announced a $5 billion data center in July 2025. Under the Justice Department's merger terms Constellation must sell York 2, and it says it agreed in March 2026 to sell five PJM plants to LS Power, a group its filings indicate includes York 2; the township says no data center application has been filed.
In February 2026 Calpine signed a 380 megawatt agreement to serve a new CyrusOne data center next to its Freestone Energy Center in Freestone County, Texas.
