University of Pittsburgh + PSC
The University of Pittsburgh is a public research university with more than 33,000 students and 14,000 faculty and staff, and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, founded in 1986, is a joint computing research center it runs with Carnegie Mellon University. Both are partners in the Keystone AI and Quantum Factory, a statewide network that Pennsylvania's seven research-intensive universities, the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, the state and Team Pennsylvania launched on April 21, 2026; it shares existing supercomputers and hasn't announced any new building, site, budget or power use. Pitt's Rob Cunningham chairs the partnership's governance committee.
The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center says Hewlett Packard Enterprise is expected to begin building its new National Science Foundation-funded Bridges-3 supercomputer at the center's new data center in early 2027, with full operations expected that summer.
