Hitachi Energy

Hitachi Energy is a grid equipment and technology company headquartered in Switzerland and wholly owned by Hitachi, Ltd., and it says it employs about 45,000 people in 60 countries. In Westmoreland County it's spending more than $70 million to expand its high-voltage switchgear and circuit breaker plant in Mount Pleasant, build a component plant with a research lab in Hunker and consolidate service work in Greensburg, which it says will create more than 100 jobs. It's on our tracker because Hitachi ties its U.S. factory spending to rising demand for grid equipment, including demand from AI data centers.

Hitachi announced in September 2025 more than $1 billion in U.S. grid equipment manufacturing investments, including $457 million for a new power transformer factory in Virginia that it says will be the largest such plant in the country.
