NRG Energy
NRG Energy is a publicly traded power company headquartered in Houston that serves about 8 million residential customers with electricity, natural gas and smart-home services and owns about 25 gigawatts of power plants, including roughly 13 gigawatts it bought from LS Power in January 2026. In February 2025 it announced a venture with GE Vernova and Kiewit's TIC to build new gas plants for the Texas grid and the PJM grid that serves Pennsylvania, which NRG now puts at about 5.4 gigawatts. No Pennsylvania site for that venture has been announced, and NRG describes the plants as mostly planned for Texas.
NRG's January 2026 purchase of LS Power's portfolio added 18 gas and dual-fuel plants in nine states and the CPower demand response business, doubling its generation capacity.
