What the report says about this site
“Located at 1421 Arcona Rd, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 (coordinates 40°11'26.8"N 76°56'45.8"W), this former fuel oil peaker plant retired in 2022 and has a retired capacity of 37 MW (see Figure 36 and Table 25). Since retirement, the site has been cleared, and no plans have been made regarding its use. The 19.3-acre site is located south of Interstate 76 east of its intersection with US-15 south of Harrisburg. The site is decommissioned, but the remediation status is unknown. It is zoned for single family rural residential use, but 25.1 available acres adjacent to it are zoned for neighborhood commercial use; they are rated as nearly level. The site is not classified as a presumptive brownfield, and there is no known soil or groundwater contamination. FEMA designates the site as having a very low natural hazard risk and minimal flooding risk. The parcel and nearby parcels are not located within or adjacent to a documented coal mining area and are, therefore, considered to have minimal mine subsidence potential. The site has easy access to rail and major roadways, but river access is ~5 miles away. Transmission lines and a substation are present on site. A natural gas pipeline is ~5.5 miles away. The nearest broadband installation is ~3 miles away. The nearest generator is ~15 miles away. The site is ~10 miles from the Marcellus shale formation. A wastewater treatment plant is ~2 miles away, and a brownfield is ~4.5 miles away. There are ~1,258,133 people within 30 miles of the site.”
